Thomas, MD, has initiated our research efforts in Jacksonville, Florida, and continues the research mission. We continue to expand our research efforts and are actively enrolling in new studies. One of the more exciting trials we have participated in was the Kingfisher trial, which compared brolucizumab (Beovu, Novartis) with aflibercept (Eylea, Regeneron) for the treatment of diabetic macular edema. Shortly after I joined the practice, I initiated the clinical research department at Florida Retina Institute. By participating in trials, we potentially allow our patients to be the first to benefit from a novel treatment for their retinal condition. I am most interested in how clinical trials help advance medical knowledge and help retina specialists improve patient care. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Texas Medical Association, Tarrant County Medical Association, and American Society of Retina Specialists. Abdelaziz has contributed to the field by co-authoring several journal articles, contributing to book chapters, and presenting at national meetings. Abdelaziz decided to move closer to family in Texas and joined the Retina Center of Texas. He finally completed an ocular oncology fellowship at the University of California in San Francisco.Īfter completing all his training, Dr. Abdelaziz next completed a surgical retina fellowship at Georgetown University and Retina Group of Washington. The American Academy of Ophthalmology also gave him the EyeWiki Award.ĭr. Abdelaziz won the Exemplary Resident Award, the Top OKAP Award, and the Clinical Research of the Year Award. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Case Western University, where he was appointed as Chief Resident by his peers and his mentors.ĭuring residency, Dr. He then completed medical school at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis Magna Cum Laude with a Biomedical Engineering and Chemistry major. After finishing high school in South Florida, he graduated from Washington University in St. Abdelaziz grew up in a small village in Palestine before moving to the United States. Abdelaziz also specializes in the medical treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, vascular occlusions, uveitis, and all other medical diseases of the retina.ĭr. Abdelaziz is highly skilled at performing the latest surgical techniques to treat uveal melanomas, repair retinal detachments, epiretinal membranes (macular puckers), macular holes, diabetic tractional detachments, and many other vitreoretinal diseases. Musa as he is commonly called by his patients, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained in vitreoretinal surgery and ocular oncology. Musa Abdelaziz, MD, joined RCT in October 2020.
